Why is diversity important in a team?
What does it really mean to belong to a team?
Each of these lines from the story can become a Q-Focus โ a spark for deeper questions. Click one to mark it as your starting point.
We have a cat on our team.
We have a new member.
Only dogs can play fetch.
Cathy watched silently.
They bumped into each other and fell down.
We have another new member.
Read carefully โ you'll use this text as evidence in every writing task ahead.
"Let's be nice to her!" said Coach Biscuit. But the dogs looked nervous. "We never had a cat on our team!" they said. "Maybe Cathy never had a dog on her team. Now, let's play a game," Coach Biscuit said. "But can she play fetch? She's not a dog. Only dogs can play fetch," Rusty said.
Coach Biscuit said, "Cathy, this is your first day. So you can watch and join the game anytime." The game began. Cathy watched silently.
"Can somebody get the ball? It's going over the fence!" Rusty shouted. They bumped into each other and fell down. Then, Cathy jumped into the air and got the ball. She quickly passed it over.
The team won. "Maybe," Rusty said slowly, "difference isn't always wrong."
Choose 2+ of the 9 STAR lenses and write open-ended questions that dig deeper into this scene:
TEXT ์ ์๋ฌธ
"A cat?" Rusty whispered. "Cats don't play fetch. This is a dog thing." "Only dogs can play fetch." Cathy watched silently. Cathy said nothing. She just watched, learned, and waited for her moment.
Pick two characters. Write a 6-turn dialogue built entirely from questions โ at least 3 must be real questions, and each must connect naturally to the line before it. Then practice it as a role play and record it.
Look at the survey results below. Build one Likert-style survey question, then use the data and the story together to argue about stereotypes.
| # | Survey Item | Avg. | Change | Meaning |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| โ | Teams can get better results when they have different members. | 4.2 | โ +0.8 | Positive view of diversity is growing |
| โก | I have judged someone by their appearance before. | 3.7 | โ โ0.6 | More self-reflection on bias |
| โข | New team members should always get a chance. | 4.5 | โ +0.4 | Inclusion seen as more important |
| โฃ | Diversity can help change stereotypes. | 3.9 | โ +1.1 | Understanding of diversity's effect on bias |
Write at least 50 words in English using the Q-OREO structure. Use a scene from the story as evidence, and define "Diversity" yourself somewhere in your essay.
